*Again, thank you everyone for your patience during my transition to this new role! :)
*Regarding Reviews, especially those with proposed changes to the IEP: Please remember to have conversations with parents/families about any changes prior to the meeting. *Also, a reminder per the Regulations...frequency of service is not to be included in a report for a child who is receiving CPSE services. A recommendation of a service can be made but the CPSE makes the final IEP recommendation for services. Also, it is important to not promise services to a parent prior to a meeting, it is a committee decision....all of us together with the family. *When sending reports for a meeting, please copy both Ginna McCormick and Deb J. *For classroom teachers.....please be sure to review student IEPs with your paraprofessional team members (throughout the year). It is important for them to know/understand student goals and strategies that are helpful for the children in your class. *Definition of LRE: Least Restrictive Environment In NYS: 200.1(cc) The placement of an individual student with a disability in the least restrictive environment shall: (1) provide the special education needed by the student; (2) provide for education of the student to the maximum extent appropriate to the needs of the student with other students who do not have disabilities; and (3) be as close as possible to the student's home More info to come..... ESY Info: We just had a discussion at our local Chair meeting at BOCES about ESY. Ann McNamara (Regional Associate from NYSED) reminded us all that the upcoming Thanksgiving Break is a great time to be thinking about students and regression. If a child you work with has a meeting scheduled after December 15th, please come prepared to discuss ESY if necessary and have the data at the meeting. We hope to have most ESY determinations made by mid March. This will help the Early Childhood office plan for Summer programs/personnel. When we receive ESY notifications late in the year, it creates some difficulty with planning for Summer. Thanks so very much for understanding! Things to remember: -The ESY report must be received prior to the child's meeting -The data measured MUST be an objective or goal from the IEP. -Separate forms to be submitted for each discipline Exception: Children with SCIS may be blended on one form documenting all areas of regression. -A narrative may also be submitted for further documentation and should address at minimum: Updated functional levels, Rate of progress toward goals, Expected outcomes of ESY service, and Parent's commitment in participation. -Related Service and Special Education Providers: please remember to import your regression statements to the Reports section of the IEP. Also, in the PLPs section that pertains to your discipline, go to the needs area w/in that PLPs section and update the need for regression and why. Thank you! Classroom Teachers:
For CPSE meetings…..you can submit prior to the meeting (the end of the school day on the day prior to the meeting - at the latest) one of the following (these should be emailed to Deb J and Ginna*): -the teacher report form that you have been using Or Teaching Strategies GOLD report Or you can type progress in the PLEPS on the draft IEP and just be prepared to discuss progress (if you do just add information to the PLEPS, please let Ginna and I know via email so I can review it or reference it). Please submit written reports in the reports/evaluations section of the IEP. Related Service Providers: Prior to a student’s CPSE meeting, please submit reports by uploading to IEP direct (in the evaluation/reports section of the IEP - internal comments). -Prior to the meeting, please fill in any appropriate updates to the PLEPS in the draft IEP. Thank you! Deb J Hi everyone:
Just a reminder that progress notes are due in IEP direct the same day as parent-teacher conferences. If you need any help with IEP direct, please be sure to let me know. Also, there are some new progress monitoring capabilities coming soon....I will keep you informed. Thank you so much! Deb J. Thanks to everyone who was able to participate in Kate Smith's training! If you need her handouts, I'm attaching them here. We can request her progress monitoring training if there's interest.
